We recently concluded the 44th annual March for Life in January, but our work to build a culture of life and protect the rights of the unborn continues.
The March for Life began in response to the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions in 1973, when the U.S. Supreme Court invalidated all state laws regarding abortion and created a “right” to abortion on demand.
Since then, many states have made progress placing some legal limits on abortion, and in doing so, protecting women and babies; however, the Supreme Court has thwarted many of those efforts.
The importance of the U.S. Supreme Court cannot be underestimated. We support President Trump’s nominee of Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the vacancy left by the late Justice Antonin Scalia. He is known to be an expert in and writer of the law, and has stated that “an assiduous focus on text, structure, and history is essential to the proper exercise of the judicial function.”
As the President prepares to give his first Joint Address to Congress, will you urge your Senators to Confirm Supreme Court Nominee, Judge Neil Gorsuch?
Judge Gorsuch is a strict constructionist. He also has a record of protecting life and conscience.
- Gorsuch wrote a book called “The Future of Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia.” He argues in the book that “human life is fundamentally and inherently valuable” and that “the intentional taking of human life by private persons is always wrong.”
- Gorsuch ruled in favor of Hobby Lobby in holding that Obamacare’s abortifacient mandate violates the religious beliefs of closely-held corporations.
- Gorsuch also ruled in favor of the Little Sisters of the Poor, defending the rights of nuns not to be forced to pay for abortion-inducing drugs in their health care plans.
- Gorsuch forcefully dissented from a case in which the Tenth Circuit sided with Planned Parenthood and refused to allow the Governor of Utah to defund the abortion business in wake of videos showing its involvement in the selling of baby body parts.
It’s critical that during this battle for the confirmation of Judge Gorsuch, our Senators hear from America’s pro-life majority. Our country has a pro-life consensus, with 80% favoring real legal limits on abortion. It’s time the Supreme Court reflected that consensus. The confirmation of Judge Gorsuch is the first step in that direction.
