“It is reported that House and Senate leadership have just agreed to a massive appropriations bill that combines spending for the Department of Defense, the Labor Department, and the Department of Health and Human Services, alongside another continuing resolution. While this is yet another example of Congress’ bipartisan failure to fund the government, March for Life opposes the bill because Republican leadership acquiesced to the pro-abortion Democratic Leadership and did not include any new pro-life protections. Consequently there will be no conscience protections for healthcare professionals and our nation’s largest abortion provider Planned Parenthood will get a massive amount of taxpayer dollars.
“We will not be scoring the legislation because our pro-life allies are in a precarious position. Republican and Democratic Leadership’s decision to combine Defense spending, including funding for our troops, with Health and Human Services spending, including money for the abortion industry, puts pro-life Members in a difficult position they did not create. Many organizations and elected officials, led by Family Research Council, opposed this pairing when it was first announced, rightly predicting the quandary in which leadership has put rank-and-file members as well as pro-life organizations.
“To accomplish sustaining pro-life victories we need to elect more pro-life members, regardless of party, and put in place leadership that fights for these priorities.”
